It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not afforded the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

Some will argue the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from that point Healy was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this victory succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
